The Horse Loom - s/t - LP (2012)

Labels: Low Point
Review by: Kunal Nandi

This album (and the resultant all-too-brief review) has been long awaited by me to say the least. I know diddly squat about folk stuff since the up-close and personal nature of acoustic performance can make me as uneasy as an intensely intense hardcore mob getting up in my grill, but whenever I have seen Steven Malley (formerly of The Unit Ama and Crane) do his acoustic thing, I am utterly captivated. A humble manner belies some blazing deftness on the fretboard, wringing notes from available moments in a truly tasteful manner, making this honest, fragile tunesmithing of the highest order. Released with some perfectly apt artwork on the super Low Point label, pick this up along with your Celer and Kyle Bobby Dunn CDs and just bask in some chilly North Sea facing introspection.
