This is some brash post punk from Telford courtesy of Wolf Town DIY who appear to be sweeping up a lot of the coolest bands in the area. I wasn’t sure I could lump Telford in with Wolverhampton but the internet tells me it is only 27 minutes away. I remember when that part of the Midlands used to be renowned for bands like Pop Will Eat Itself and Ned’s Atomic Dustbin who played a major part in my teenage musical years. The title track kicks off this 3-tracker with a bassy riff and the hook line on this track is “And you will know us by the trail of breadcrumbs” which might well be a reference to one of their main influences. “Histories” is up next – it is mid-paced, menacing and packs a punch. These guys are loud and bolshy, and anger creeps into the closing track “Smoke and Mirrors” which is a cracking tune with driving guitars and vocals. The recording is pretty clean – I might like this even more with a slightly grubbier sound but I’m nitpicking and I reckon they’d be great live as this is another new band that is impressing me hugely. There does indeed appear to be something in the water in the Wolf Town area at the moment.
