M:40 - Diagnos - CD (2012)

Labels: Halvfabrikat – Hoborec
Review by: Edward Ling

Opening with an assault of unexpected aural shock and awe, this springy mass of Norse neo blackish hardcore belts along in a pleasingly relentless groove and doesn’t particularly let up until the end. With heavy echoes of – primarily but not exclusively post-Frank Carter – Gallows, it’s a neat forty minute package of noise. The guitar-abuse and the production quality also has an early ’90s feel about it, reminiscent of Tool, but without any of the kinky self pity. Lyrically, as it’s all in Swedish they could be growling about their favourite types of cheese for all I know. Top marks for intent though, and respect is due for not attempting to do any English language tracks at all “” face it kids: few can write credibly in a second language; it feels a little like sucking up; and you don’t really need to. Criticism might be that it is, unavoidably, somewhat same-y and notwithstanding a few changes of pace and false endings here and there, it’s all variations on the same theme. But that’s just being picky. Because this is rather good.
