Adelit@s - Llama Viva De La Rabia - LP (2012)

Labels: Aborted Society
Review by: Lewis

This is some pretty tuneful, soulful Spanish language punk rock from the USA. Whilst poles apart in terms of sound from the legendary Los Crudos, their lyrics strike a similar chord; reflecting on the frustrations, injustice and oppression Latino people face in the so-called land of the free. Amongst the obligatory punk lyrical targets of war and social alienation lie more sober diatribes expressing the harsh realities of migration, racism and border control. A speeding punk rock message of defiance from those that must raise their voice, only broken by the occasional folk interlude. But this is not a depressing record, it is full of energy and bursting with life, passion and the irrepressible demand for justice. Whilst a product of the USA this band can not escape bearing a sound of those countries south of the border; a good starting point would be Puerto Rico’s female-fronted Cojoba.
