The punk that hits me best tends to be that which is ramshackle and sloppy, yet is smart enough to ensure that there is a tune in there somewhere. Spokenest manages to deliver on all three aspects with this fast moving EP. There’s a whole 9 songs, and none of them will challenge your endurance. All two people in the band thrash away at their chosen instrument and holler away over the top. It actually reminds me a bit of Gun Outfit in a way, but I suppose that’s the male and female vocals at work. I also want to compare it to Street Eaters. It’s got that same sort of flavour, flailing away with these tiny tinges of 90s emo buried in the guitars and song structures.
There’s not a lot to add here, the music speaks for itself. If you find yourself engaged by punk music of this fashion then I reckon you’ll find a lot to like, as I did. Give it a whirl.
