Labels: Get Into It Records
Review by: Andy Malcolm
Get Into It Records have a fine grasp of what to do with the cassette format in 2013 – bung out a couple of bands who are just getting going and let them get their music out there in a fashion that is cheap, quick and won’t burden the label with daft overheads. Here we have 2 bands with not a huge amount in common musically but it makes for a nice split and introduction to them both. Healing Powers first up give us some laboured screamo with nice, flowing melodies that you might tend to find in a band that has less wrought vocals. Their second song is faster and is basically 90 seconds of midwestmo with a dude crying over the top. I think the music on show here is really good, but screamy vocals are not really my thing any more, but that’s just a personal preference. It’s a good start though.
Split mates Wade are right up my street. This is “mo at it’s lowest-fi, a down and dirty recording that shows off that these guys have smart idea on how to put together a cool song. “Hail, Chillingham” sounds massively like Empire State Games to these ears. I love the chuggy guitar and off key vocals, it’s the kind of music I am always chuffed to hear, as it gets made by about one band every 5 years. “Jonathan Caruthers” hurtles along at quite a pace, a definite 90s emo feel here with teary vocals and ragged guitars. Goes nicely with the stuff Plaids have been doing I reckon. Excited about what is going on here, great start!
