Dowzer - Facing Paper Tigers - CD (2013)

Labels: Waterslide
Review by: Ted Reynolds

Dutch pop punk, that sounds like late 90s Fat Wreck bands,or bands on Honest Dons, or even like stuff from Drive-Thru Records bands. There are harmonies all over the place, chunky muted power chords and loads of octave chords (my favourite pop-punk guitar thing, well… along with the pick scrape.) Honestly, it reminds me of the good old days, I think its great.

It’s really solid American style pop punk, nothing even slightly close to anything original, but its really
enjoyable to listen to. Obviously if you never liked Nofx, or Limp, or Hi Standard, then I wouldn’t bother,
but if you do then this perfectly taps into that sound, and makes a very good appropriation of it,
American style pop punk (Californian style?) at it’s best, I will listen to this again rather than lob it
behind the pile of shit records I have picked up over the years, which is what I do with a lot of these review
records!
