Labels: Life on an Island
Review by: Oli Saunders
I’m sure Luke Holstein’s mates think it’s pretty cool that his bedroom recorded attempt at folk made it onto a run of 50 tapes released by a record label but in all honesty I don’t think it was warranted. Sure his voice is alright, the acoustic guitar playing is pretty basic but passable and the lyrics seem personal, but this does not mean you need to make a neatly packaged tape and try to distribute it to the world. Well, you’ve managed to make it onto the big stage of Collective and into a couple of distros, which is more than I’ve managed, but I feel that’s about as good as it’s gonna get.
Having said that, I quite like the end of ‘Jako Song’.
