So bands continue to churn out the gentle, cuddly yet downbeat indie rock that you are more than familiar with by now. On their bandcamp page it says “this record is a perfect modern-day addition to all those 90s emo records that have worn thin on your turntable from years and feelings long passed”, which is a nice sentiment but I think that is a fair way off the mark here. It does perhaps hint at stuff like American Football, but the vocals are rather deep and a bit odd, maybe more like Pedro the Lion or something, and I never got on with that band either. This single is the sort of stuff that’ll earn the band a support slot for Joie de Vivre when they pass through town, but otherwise it’s just a little, well, dull. Solid, yes. But just lacks the spark and perhaps leans on influences that I never really rated, so I suppose they were always onto a losing thing with me reviewing this one.
