Yes I’m still listening to screamo. It is still the genre that is most likely to make me close my eyes and scrunch up my face, whilst I am blown away by the melodic mess of chaos conjured from approximately four or five people and their instruments. We are in an era where euro screamo is pretty much dead but thankfully there are still a few people bringing it back from the brink. Much like has been done from time to time with every genre that gets “popular” for a while.
Delos are from Germany and probably contain members who have been in other notable bands (though I don’t recognise any names). They have two vocalists; I didn’t immediately notice this since they are rather similar in sound. They fly through this record in 14 minutes. The first side is particulaly flat out – track one (I) has some fantastic riffs creeping their way into the fold, before II bursts in after a miscrosecond pause. Think of a less jarring Louise Cyphre combined with a rougher Danse Macabre and you’re in the right ballpark. IV starts the flipside and is interesting for it’s change in direction, with half-spoken vocals. It does cause the side to lose a little momentum and to be honest it doesn’t live up to the first. Still, a wonderfully refreshing release which makes me want to spend the day rinsing my screamo collection. See you later x
