I had never heard of this band before but the label sent in a copy of the LP which is always most welcome and I would have got around to reviewing this a lot sooner if the shipping company hadn’t broken my record player on the way over. Still, time heals all and I am able to listen to it at last. This is a North Carolina band playing some slow and summery indie with poppy sensibilities – sung vocals with harmonies and a clean, crisp sound. They play a kind of hill-y indie with folky tendencies. It’s not strictly my kind of thing but it’s pretty pleasant and well put-together with a catchy side to it. I keep hearing the line “Not a hair from the head of a billionaire have we used to prop us up” looping in my head after listening to this. It is from the catchiest song on here – “Jeff October”. “Popsicle Swamp” is the closest they get to rocking out with its more distorted ending but it’s a gentle listen on the whole. They’re good at what they do.
