Psychic Teens - COME - LP (2013)

Labels: SRA
Review by: Alex Deller

The bulk of this LP comprises a bassy, yawning, open wah wah sound through which shine chinks of trebly guitar and smothered baritone vocals. Influences may or may not include the likes of Joy Division, Feedtime and the Birthday Party, albeit filtered through something modern and knowing like latterday Young Widows. It could perhaps do with some variation and more by way of killer hooks, but all of this is generally a good thing. Additionally, the album art is decidedly unnerving: a featureless nurse’s face cracked into a prurient fissure through which a pair of stockinged legs are visible. I don’t know what it all means, but it kind of sums things up.
