Without Maps - Where the Wires Ran - 10

Labels: Barely Regal – Cross Your Heart and Hope to DIY – Duck Duck Goose

Don’t be fooled by the Bandcamp page. This is definitely a new EP by Without Maps and not by a band called DuckDuckGoose Records although that label certainly had a hand in releasing this one along with two other cool labels. This follows on from Without Maps’ debut full length (“Capillaries”) earlier this year which was a bit of a stormer. You get four new tracks of their energetic and brash post punk this time around and it appeared just in time for their tour with Deadverse recently. Soundwise there might be just a little bit more going on this time around. It’s a little darker too. “Things To Do In London When You’re Dead” comes hurtling out of the blocks and you might notice again the similarly high-octane riffing to Plaids who they have some crossover with. They don’t really let up from here – it remains direct, and full of energy and yelling. Another strong release, particularly the first two longer tracks. The best minute on here is the last 60 seconds of the raucous opener where they launch the kitchen sink.
