Here’s some crunchy post-hardcore from this new(ish) act, serving up seven tracks that recall stuff like Tar, Seaweed, Drive Like Jehu and Quicksand with a poppier, punkier edge. The riffs crunch and teeter, draped with occasional washes of shrieking, skronky noise while vocalist Kylee Kimbrough offers up some slightly monotonous hoots and hollers. It’s all quite enjoyable and certainly coming from a direction I can get behind, though it’d be good to see any follow-up nailing those hooks down with a bit more vigour and freeing the songs from their somewhat damp production. Still, certainly not a bad start if you’re an old duffer who likes the bands already mentioned or have been enjoying the retrograde sounds of California X and Drug Church – download the thing for free via their bandcamp page and give it a go for yourself.
