This CD has 100 acts from all over the world and covers grind, death metal, noise and the areas in between (especially that bizarre micro-genre of “noisecore”). I reviewed each one in real-time which perhaps defeats the purpose of an all-encompassing attack of noisecore, but it helped get my word count up.
The Eradicus – and we’re off, bit of a Western movie sample, then total howling bass feedback cacophony
AKBK – blistering noisecore, lots of weird samples in the mix
Necrolytic – screeches and guttural growls over clattering death metal
Penis Geyser – Ohio against the world, total garbage brilliance, quite wind tunnel-y with vocals to the fore this time
Cacasonica – tinny punk daftness from Ecuador, my roommate is from there so it’s nice we have that to talk about
Stab! – not the UK punk band, this is all starting to sound exactly the same
PTAO – some sci-fi wibbles in there, this stops and starts all over the bloody place
Makua Valley Blast Test – from Hawaii I believe, a nice doomy breather before all hell breaks loose
Naturals – some sort of unlistenable practise session, you could say it sounds very natural (ho ho)
Gorgonized Dorks – legendary idiots making vocal drenched blurrcore with knackered electronics
Ablach – Scottish grindy death metal goodness with two contrasting vocalists, finally something that could be construed as being a proper song
Cedric’s Lettuce – totally broken harsh noise phasing in and out of audibility
Funeral Mongoloids – lots and lots of people yelling over drums, not sure if there are other instruments involved
Fung Tunt – what the holy hell is this? people impersonating police sirens all overlaid and then some drums come in? cool
SMG – grind your fucking head in, pretty damn nifty
Beartrap – thought they’d be the fastcore band but this lot are all over the shop like Fat Day or something
Zulanwar – this one is about drugs and sounds like drugs, a total mess
Rattenkrieg – downtuned evil riffs and gurgles, I dig
Dispepsiaa – really ripping grind that doesn’t mess about unsurprisingly, totally great
Iron Butter – a stompy bass-led riff leads into a fast bit, can’t make anything trebly out as per, I think my ears are broken
Pottersville – noisy punk shit like an inept Zeke, very naughty lyrics!
Meet The Squidables – no fucking clue what is happening here. Kid’s toy sampling to destruction?
CSMD – Dutch dudes making howling wind tunnel improv shit with some very fucking odd sci-fi bits. Brilliant of course
Amnogomusikimalo – stop start stuff, they seem to all be playing together which makes a change
Cogs And Sprockets – killer grind stuff, I can dig the tightness
Deep Fried Embryo – a sprawling mess of cacophonic grinding noisecore
The Earwigs – a harsh noise digital attack of feedback and screams. Unpleasant even in this company
Doktor Bitch – a speedy punk ditty that is over in about 3 second, with a fucking fadeout?! Good work
Joshua Norton Cabal – Andy Endless Blockade’s noise project, signature yelling and randomised experimenting covers all the bases
Teenage Desires – nice line in playing a riff together and then fucking about in between
Dysmorfic – great grindcore that is over in six seconds
Chocolate Crucifix – yes, I enjoyed the riff, good and heavy
Metropolis – another total fucking unlistenable mess
Facialmess – some quietness at the start thankfully, then it’s cut up digital hardcore that actually rules
TxQxBx – boombox recording of some ace death metal
Violent Headache – holy shit this is brutal, although the vocals are too loud and cover up the riffing but fuck it
Psychotic Sufferance – I am starting to lose it by now, this is agreeably nuts
Rupture – urgh fucking violent stuff, the singer is just having a chat over the top it seems
Mummifier – yeah let’s fucking go, this lot seem silly rather than serious so they know what’s up
Sauerkraut – instead of guitars they have two mosquitoes, that is my main take away from this
Comparative Anatomy – monkey samples atop some blithering grind nonsense
Braid Of Black Smoke – feedback as a weapon in between some downtuned blasts
Melanocetus Murrayi – blistering harsh continuous 30 second attack, noise meets grind, a real headcleaner
Nikudorei – Japanese legends of this style, I don’t recall them being this cut-up and digi-influenced but it’s great
Nihilist Commando – utterly relentless blast attack here
Bonesaw – Scotland representing again, down and dirty death metal excellence
Johnstomper aka Ben Is The Bastard – MITB influenced I’m guessing? Guitar-free, freeform noise involved
Grand Old Lady – definitely sounds like four people playing at different times but they do all end at the same time
Harsh Supplement – stop start stuff, constant drum count-ins with bursts of absurd noise
Mutwawa – some bubbling, burbling sci-fi noises and that’s about it
Patiserrie – twisted, hectic death metal greatness with a drum machine involved presumably? Production sounds great in amongst the rest
2 Minuta Dreka – a grand total of nine seconds of forgettable pornogrind
Chadburger – some live stuff, I can’t make a great deal out any more
Screwtape – a single note feeding back for 5 seconds, but it is a good note though
Sete Star Sept – the greatest band in the world right now, bass and drums, semi improv experimental grind
Parliamentarisk Sodomi – Norwegian nutcase packs more ideas into 10 seconds than I have in this whole review
Joe Pesci – The UK’s contribution, speedy Spazz like riffing
Dis-Eased – bad sounding but i am digging the riff, pretty nifty straight down the line hardcore
Led Beasties – unfathomable multi vocalled nonsense
Black Market Fetus – punky hardcore thrash, actual proper riffs involved, I can headbang
Slaughtergrave – no doubt booze-fuelled punk rawk
Tea Party Violence – broken electronics and screaming, with a pulsing digital attack trying to force its way through
Juhyo – awesome, haunting, atmospheric stuff which is tricky to convey in 30 secs. Provides a much needed break
Kusari Gama Kill – more sci-fi digital blastcore insanity
Godstomper – legendary bass and drums duo that will never ever stop. 4 songs in 9 seconds. Fucking ridiculous
Blast Femur – I think this is a sample of Bjork talking over an outtake from the Fugazi Instrument soundtrack
7 Minutes Of Nausea – absolutely horrible distorted riff mess with occasional drum accompaniment. Confusing
Kali Yuga Death Party – quite fun Ramones feel in the guitars with some yelling and then it falls apart completely at the end
Captain Three Leg – excellent sample usage, and an excellent downtuned grind attack
Papaconia – recorded in a dustbin but i can just about make out that they are playing death metal
Shatter Dead – a clattering grind mess, some actual riffs in there though
Agathocles – no fucking around from the masters of the form, how the hell do they keep doing it?
Batillus – the New York doom crew shorten it down for us, I know the singer has dreads
Barbarian Scum – waves of harsh noise lapping at the shore of sanity, like the premonition bits in Prince Of Darkness
Intestinal Fortitude – totally ripping and discernible grinding metal with solos and actual singing? Unexpectedly good
Colico – extremely messy weirdness
Jet Jaguar KR-3 Kill Spree – totally blasted digital hardcore nonsense, sped up i think, cool band name
Hello Kitty Mother Fuckers – a total unlistenable tinpot noisecore effort here
Super Fun Happy Slide – slippery grind mess from down under mate! This rules
Penis Enlargement – about 40 split second bursts of guitar mistakes and then they give up
Ataque Cardiaco – nifty death metal stuff, drummer can definitely blast it!
Bloody Rectum – I don’t know any more but this is an unholy mess and to be encouraged
Cauliflower Ass & Bob – country and western with parping mariachi trumpet played by people that may have only just picked up their instruments
Drogheda – ace grinding stuff
Fascist Insect – very harsh grind, it was over by the time i wrote those 3 words
Molecular Cloud – synthy goodness, phasing in and out with some plangent guitar line picked out, nice!
Nut Screamer – literally the sound of someone throwing up, honestly
Mesrine – Canuckian grind legends, tuned low for extra griminess
Zombie Hate Brigade – sounds like a bit like Mesrine handily
V.R.V. – nice downtuned death metal evilness featuring some chugging which i could do with at this stage
CDR – digital harsh noise madness, the guitars are not available for comment though
The Oily Menace – great DIY grind band that have done splits with the likes of Cloud Rat, very fast but heavy with it
Mad Eye Disease – i don’t know any more, this is really mad though
Rectal Twat – more boombox guitars, cool riff though
Slapendehonden – Dutch sloppy grinding action
Deranged Insane – a nice line in heavy grind
Hard Charger – good tinny bit of scattered ripping grindy hardcore
Gangbang Gestapo – good fun hardcore but by this point I have no words left
Vomir – the harsh noise wall king, total anti music, amazing as usual especially in 20 second form rather than 4 fucking hours of it
Wadge – Hawaiian themed digital grindcore, excellent as usual, fast as fuck, great riffs
So there you go, this is largely a slap in the face of conventional music and to be commended. The logistics of sorting this out cannot go unmentioned. Absolutely top work from all concerned. I’m going to have a lie down now.
