This is three new songs from MNMNTS who still can’t find their missing vowels. They have a new guy on vocals now and the overall effect is that this is a little less harsh vocally than “The Good Life” LP from last year. Although I quite liked that record it was a little too far into the hardcore realm for my own personal tastes at times but I think these three songs are a step up. That is not to say that the hardcore riffs are gone now though and the guitars crunch with heft while the vocals are aggressive and raspy. It’s solid and the bleakness that is littered throughout the artwork, song titles and lyrics is appealing to me. There is tension throughout and the strain and wear on the vocals is palpable. The strongest track is left until last (“The end of innocence, the darkness of man’s heart”). I can’t end this review without a note on the packaging as it is pretty special with a die-cut cover and silkscreened B-side adding to the bleak cover art.
