Ma Jolie - Polars - CD (2013)

Labels: Lame-O Records
Review by: BW Easey

Philladelphia Pop-Punk/Hardcore outfit Ma Jolie’s sophomore effort “˜Polars’, released Novemeber of last year, confirms their capabilities as a four piece. “˜Polars’ provides Title Fight style vocals, Make Do and Mends ability for crafting hooks and a fresh yet familiar pop-hardcore appreciation within their own musical boundaries as a band.

The album is sealed with an utter sense of friendship, teenage brotherhood and adolescent hell raising. The band has managed to contain an entire hectic sing along live set within the short 30-minute release.

Hidden beneath gruff yet melodic vocals the album is home to some incredibly innovative musicianship, the guitarists of the band are perfect matches finding a sweet spot between dulcet bass lines, lethargic lead lines and huge sounding rhythm parts.

Stand out track “˜Kansas Slam’ truly shows off the bands flair, its breakdown being my personal highlight of the album.

The honest anthems Ma Jolie display in this short yet sweet record secure their place in their hometowns scene. Head over to their bandcamp for a free download of the album.
