This is a very strange one for me. On my first listen I found myself hating it. I was ready to attack them full force on how annoying I found the Riff to the third song Freebeard (imagine an annoying Culture Shock punk reggae riff played through a phaser pedal). I told myself after about six listens driving back and forth to work that the emperor wears no clothes, the lyrics are annoying and the singer is slowly becoming Rod Stewart and Fergal Sharkey mixed into a John Lennon mince pie. as the LP progresses, I notice that they annoy me by throwing in unnecessary pedals (particularly on the vocals) and instruments (their total lack of confidence Harmonica playing on Bad Things makes me laugh with hatred.) They are from Texas, it annoys me that they aren’t The Dicks. I’m writing it off as indie college rock. I’m so the wrong person to review this! Then driving home from work from a night shift I give it one last spin in my car on my way home and it dawns on me that the songs have become not only very familiar but that I’m really enjoying them. The vocals have become great and every tune is memorable. The lyrics are comfortable with me though unchallenging. I’m enjoying the Indie rock. I’m eating the Green Eggs and Ham, I fucking like them Sam I am. I just took a bit longer to get there than the clever children again.
