Kings of crust Deviated Instinct are back with a split 7″ with Norwegian crustcore band Summon The Crows. The last thing I heard from Deviated Instinct was the ‘Rock and Roll Conformity’ LP way back in the early 90s. They were always a stand out band for me. Pioneers of crust but always with good humour and amazing artwork. End times by Deviated Instinct comes in at over 4 and a half minutes and has a slower tempo than I remember them playing before. However this makes for a more intense sound, classic heavy guitar and bass and of course fantastic growling vocals. It makes me very happy to hear Deviated instinct again and it sounds like they’ve lost none of the power they had back in the day. The other two tracks on this 7″ are provided by Norway’s Summon the Crows. The Burning and Children of the Light both under 3 minutes of blisteringly fast crustcore. Gruff vocals, slightly metal-edged guitar work and some stand out drumming. Great stuff all in all. You like powerful crusty punk rock? This is the stuff for you!
