The finest 90s nostalgia trip I have taken thus far. Grungey space rock from the Midlands, a heady mix of Hum, Quicksand, Helmet and Siamese Dream era Smashing Pumpkins. Thick and fuzzy distorted riffs give way to bright passages swirling with phaser and chorus and the lyrics are fixated on what lies beyond this planet’s atmosphere. The songs are dynamic in the classic quiet-loud pattern and full of catchy hooks and guitar licks. There seems to be a lot of bands trying to ape this sound, or at least elements of it, which falls a little flat for me, but Fade have nailed it and I can’t wait to see what they come up with next (hopefully a sprawling conceptual double album with 50 layers of guitars and cosmic artwork).
