Here’s a new Philadelphia band made up of various veterans with CVs listing bands like Weston, Nona, and Ex Friends. On this 7inch, they deliver four crackingly loud tunes of punked-up indie rock. They’ve got their songwriting down to a tee and it’s all bursting with the exuberance, urgency and energy of Japandroids. The other band I hear is the poppier side of Jawbreaker, whilst lyrically it’s all nostalgia and wistful romanticism. There’s an almost celebratory feel to this record as it culminates in the rousing “Punk Or Lust”. It’s brash and fully charged up, and the confidence in the vocals and rhythm section make this stand out from the crowd. Even the urgency in the drumming is a highlight. I have to say, this is one of the most impressive debuts of this ilk that I’ve heard in ages.
