Usually it doesn’t bother me that I’ve never heard of the artist responsible for the things I get sent, but then again, not every band is called OOIOO.
Here is a fact from the internet relating to this band “” OOIOO once opened for Sonic Youth but because none of them could play their instruments, they had stickers placed on their fretboards to show them where to put their fingers.
Whether that’s true or not, it doesn’t seem as though the good burghers of Thrill Jockey gave a shit because this madness is being released on their label and fucking awesome it is too. Someone once told me that before Rashomon won at Cannes in 1950, the Japanese film industry made films only for the home market, meaning not a single concession was made to western audiences; this music sounds embodies that artistically isolationist spirit and takes it to the next illogical step, namely making music with not a single concession being made to anyone who isn’t a member of the band OOIOO or perhaps one of their close friends.
For this reason, if you have any interest in avant-garde music whatsoever, you should buy this when it comes out, before giving these maniacs even more of your money in return for their entire back catalogue.
It doesn’t come out until July 1st so you have plenty of time to save up.
