This is pretty awesome and that’s a word I usually reserve for use when looking at photographs of the interior of nuclear fall out bunkers from the 1980’s, so you can tell that things are serious if it’s being employed here.
The press release initially mentions Sabbath and Mudhoney but I’m not sure those bands were as prevalent in the artist’s thinking as a first listen might suggest; from the whirling guitars and spaced-out fuzz, I think perhaps the much-maligned Hawkwind might have been a more pressing influence.
Oh, whoops, they mention Hawkwind in the second paragraph so that shows just how much attention I was paying. So yes, Hawkwind, if you like Hawkwind (1970-1975) but don’t want to travel all the way to Exeter and pay £25 to see them play at the Corn Exchange at 8pm on 26th September 2014, then you could do a lot worse than buy this album.
