Having received a limited release last year before being picked up by Count Your Lucky Stars, it’s not hard to see why “This Will Come To Pass’ deserves to be heard by a wider audience “” something distribution to CYLS will afford.
That said, “This Will Come To Pass’ is not an easy listen. Living permanently on the edge of chaos, Calculator play modern hardcore reminiscent of Hot Cross and come across as easy bedfellows of the likes of Touche Amore, La Dispute and Self Defense Family.
A somewhat trying 13 tracks “” there’s often a belligerence about the way Calculator bludgeon their way along “” and certainly does test the patience, especially as what little melody remains is somewhat sparse. However, they are masters of pacing, instead relying on moments of clarity such as as “Becoming Whisperings’ to break up the relentless pace.
If you like hardcore which feels on the verge of collapse at any moment, then “This Will Come To Pass’ is as taut and frenetic as it comes. But for those who like something a bit more melodious or measured, it might leave you grasping”¦
