Labels: Tiny Engines
Review by: MH
This release sees Tiny Engines branching out into new territory for them as it moves a little further away from the kind of bands you would typically hear on their roster. This is a band from Charlotte playing the kind of post punky indie that draws comparisons to Beach Fossils particularly in the summery, surfy guitar sound. The vocals are a little loose and interesting too. When the vocalist really breaks out you could associate his style more with punk or emo. It’s a fairly gentle and relaxing listen on the whole though. Final track “Ocean” is particularly laidback at the start before the vocals get a bit ragged halfway through and then again towards the end. Apparently they used to be called It Looks Sad, That’s Why I Said It’s You but they opted to shorten the name. I think that was a good idea. Anyway, nice stuff – I really like it.
