No Marks - Hyalin - split - 7

Labels: Brassneck
Review by: Andy Malcolm

No Marks: members of Blocko and Crocodile God and the Down and Outs. Yep, that’s what it sounds like, just what you expected. This is blazin’ melodic punk with hoarse n’ high vocals. I am all over it, it’s melancholy and loud, all effort. Perfect UK style. Winning from beginning to end. When that second song kicks in and then gets all action, I am grinning from ear to ear. It’s a lot like Broccoli but not quite so grumpy and nowhere near as slow. Been waiting for a record that sounds like this for so long. No surprise it’s so good when it involves people like Mark Magill and Marc Maitland. Gonna go order their upcoming LP right this second.

Hyalin: members of Blocko and Chestnut Road. It sounds like a cross between Blocko and Chestnut Road. Come on, this is easy this reviewing game, anyone can do this shit. What a fucking great sound. It sounds like Hooton 3 Car. Beefy guitars and drifting sad man vocals, sad that he’s getting old, sad that he’s still in a band that sounds like Hooton 3 Car in 2014. He shouldn’t be sad, he should be fucking chuffed. They do a cover of ‘Constance’. It’s perfect. Everyone wishes it was still 1998. Everyone.
