Labels: Coffin Cut
Review by: Alex Deller
High-speed, sample-strewn hardcore from 90s Australia here, which is a scene I know little about beyond Rupture and a few other odds n’ sods. Still, Thee Almighty Internet tells me Chickenshit did a couple of split 7″s with HG Fact and MCR, along with a split CD for that German label who put out records by MITB, Doom, Rupture and AxCx. This newfound knowledge is fairly indicative of how the band sound: blurred blasts and piggish grunts that offer nods to Japanese classicism and the scruffier, gnarlier end of 90s hardcore, albeit maybe with the odd whiff of Heresy or Ripcord lobbed in for good measure. One side features studio cuts and the other a fairly messy live recording, and while I don’t at all mind it while I’m listening to it I’m still pretty sure it won’t be the first thing I pull from the racks when I fancy slinging on some fast, dirty 90s hc. Still, might have a go at checking out their other records so obviously can’t be that dodgy.
