Six songs. Six minutes. Three chaps. Ontario. Not much else about Pity seems to be out there, and the record sleeve gives little away beyond images of beer cans, cigarette lighters and (unopened) prophylactics. Musically they play gobby, stripped down stuff reminiscent of how Negative Approach might’ve sounded if they more fully embraced their Blitz boner, though the band manage to temper all-out thuggishness with some catchy, rough-hewn melodies that come as a rather pleasant surprise. The best song on here is about ‘leather jacket separation anxiety’ while another takes an ambiguous stance regarding beer for breakfast. While this means we mightn’t be dealing with serious, life-or-death stuff I’d say that this one’s pretty damn decent and well worth a serious squiz if you want some smart, terse, scruff-of-yer-neck hc to brighten up six minutes of your otherwise dismal life.
