The cover is a psychedelic American Eagle (do a Google image search of American Eagles and enjoy looking at pictures of how much America loves itself) so I was expecting stoner rock, and not looking forward to it. I got post rock, so not much more fun.
I try really hard to enjoy post rock, but I just can’t. It’s just not very interesting, maybe I’m too much of a philistine to enjoy it. It’s never as loud as I want it to be, or as interesting as it should be (there are obviously exceptions). I do know it’s really fun to be in a post rock band. I used to thoroughly enjoy playing it, but hated watching any other post rock band that we had to play with. So I suppose it’s a style of music like anything Mike Patton does, it should be kept to yourself and the practice room.
This is not an attack on Less Than Nothing, their band is excellent, they play well, they have some very nice gentle bass lines. I find it a bit boring, but as ranted above that’s hardly a surprise, if you are a fan of this style of music then you are going to really enjoy this band. It’s just a bit samey for me, and doesn’t offer anything especially original to the genre.
