Thin, dubby post-punk with an 80s production and androgynous, shoegaze-y vocals. I am torn. In many ways I should like this. In many ways I should loathe it. I dig the insistent pulse, the understated determination and that ‘To Somewhere’ sounds like it should soundtrack a big-haired 80s cop show stakeout scene. While I can just about live with the spindly sound and David Sylvian solo album vibes it’s all very polite, and the vocals on tracks like ‘Bringing The Sea To The City’ perhaps come across as rather too soporifically sing-song. It’s fine if you’re just having a lazy night on the couch, sure, but attempt anything more energetic and you risk walking blithely out into traffic or setting your own arm on fire. Still, despite many signs pointing against it and the risk of bodily harm if you give it a whirl whilst operating heavy machinery ‘Waiting For A Sign’ somehow manages to remain interesting and quietly compelling. I don’t know how they do it, but Githead certainly deserve a polite round of applause for their achievements. Bravo, Githead. Bravo.
