Infernoh - Nomad - split - 7

These two bands fulfilled a fairly basic but ultimately necessary requirement when I saw them live (i.e. a double dose of frantic, punch-in-the-head punk rock) and this 7″ scratches the same sort of itch. Infernöh I’m liking more here than on that 12″ I reviewed a little while back. They play the same brand of stodgy, rollicking d-beat as before but the guitars sound gutsier: horrible and lumpen, like the sound of baseball bats hitting paving slabs. Nomad, too, have a slightly different sound to that on either the Vinyl Bloodbath 7″ or 12″ I’ve heard, but, intentional or no, it’s a bit of a retrograde step. Their drumkit now appears to comprise two plastic buckets and a couch cushion, while the guitar and bass have been recorded separately and played back via boombox during the recording process so that they only exist as a series of hisses, whines and growls. The vocals? They just go all over the place as per usual. It’s a bit of a bloody mess, but to be honest I wouldn’t have it any other way. Good on both counts, then.
