Labels: Beach Impediment – Even Worse
Review by: Alex Deller
Eleven tracks of pretty awesome hardcore punk, as you already know because punk rock tastemakers the world over have long been singing its praises. It’s a logical enough continuation from the demo and 7″, and things haven’t changed too much beyond a slightly fuller sound. While “more of the same” can be a right bore “” especially when you’re dealing with the fairly trad sounds of early-days hc “” I’m still excitable enough when a band nails things this well. The songs are brain-scrapingly abrasive yet still somehow catchy and manage to walk the tightrope between tightly-reined and barely in control. While they have their classic references down fairly pat I’m going to contemporize (kind of) and suggest they approximate Skitkids playing Career Suicide songs: bright, jagged, well-written hardcore with a Svensk sense of clangour and a wealth of rollercoaster guitar solos. Lovely stuff!
