Seems like a quite a stream of good, heavy shit coming out of Italy, with Grime, Holy, Hierophant and The Secret all putting out some pretty blazing records in recent years. Council Of Rats mightn’t yet have tempered their steel to the same degree as those bands, but their debut LP shows enough determination to suggest they could well be contenders in the near future. ‘Ill Weathers’ blasts out the (rat) traps with some crisp, concise hardcore that hits the mark pretty nicely, offering a streamlined jolt of rage with no fluff and no flab, just relentless barrelling brutality that’s equal parts Born Against, Ritual Mess and Obliterations. While the music is suited well enough to the dark visions outlined in their lyrics I feel it could still do with a dab more variety and being cranked up a notch in the production department so that things are as blistering on record a I’m sure they must be live. Still, a more than solid outing to be getting on with and one possessing plenty of ugly promise.
