Pretty impressed with this one! Kurrakä are a trio from Texas who play a dour n’ moody but extremely ripping brand of punk; draping their yellowing d-beat skeleton with dark, gothic threads and inscribing it with curious runic symbols. Singer/guitarist Dru also plays in the brilliant Criaturas, but while there are certain similarities in terms of tone and delivery Kurrakä tend toward the more straightforward with the pace quick, the riffs grindingly insistent and the vocals catchily tuneful despite being all but echo-demolished. Rudimentary Peni, A Touch Of Hysteria and The Comes – or some mix thereof – would all serve well by way of comparison, but rather than read my wittering words you could just hit ‘play’ on the Bandcamp link below and find out how good they are for yourself.
