If I wasn’t so tired and had the inclination to do so, I might plot some sort of graph or chart depicting the interrelationship between sludgy, doomy, Neurosis-inspired metal and hardcore that’s either been influenced by His Hero Is Gone or influenced by bands who were themselves influenced by His Hero Is Gone. Now, I’m no statistician and my mathematical skills are of little use beyond totting up record prices and rudimentary currency conversions, but I’d wager that Gale would sit at the exact point on this hypothetical graph or chart where those two lines intersect. They clomp, stomp and roar; riffs thumping about all over the place and occasionally making way for wobbly melodic moments. The songs are put together in fine if workmanly fashion, each one a mid-paced clump that’s enjoyable enough if lacking in zest. Overall it’s certainly nothing to shit upon, but at the same time I’m wondering how it can have come to pass that I’ve played these five songs through so many times but can barely recall a single distinguishing feature.
