Seems to be a bunch of this kinda stuff coming out of Japan at the moment, and if I didn’t know better I’d begin to think that the whole country was being overrun by satanic biker gangs. With ‘Turn Up The Evil’ Birth Ritual offer up some smart, crisply played motör-metal with a punkish sense of energy, the thrashy riffs sawing away like it was 1983 while NWOBHM leads twiddle themselves into a frothy oblivion and the vocals gurgle evilly like a dive bar urinal clogged with cigarette butts and whiskey piss. It’s savage, memorable and tremendous fun: a gnarly, bout of celebratory heavy metal primitivism that should suit you down to the ground if you’ve any sort of fondness for the works of Lemmy, Mantas and the late, great Randy Uchida.
