Hey there’s some new Olivias shit. Seems like they got bored of sitting around smoking weed and listening to Duster, and decided to sit around smoking weed whilst listening to Dinosaur Jr instead. “Shutdown” is some lovely ugly lo-fi indie rock with slacker vocals and chunky riffs and feedback. It’s lumpy and joyous. I love it when the guy starts yelling. “Fall Apart” is a quick little pop punk ditty. “Toothless” is third up and continues their voyage. Actually Olivias remind me a lot of Places We Slept in a weird way, they have that same kind of out of place attitude. Haphazard, fun times, doing whatever comes naturally in 2015 in a period when so many bands seem to have such a fucking boring by numbers approach to making indie rock music. All hail bands that don’t bother reading the book. Who knows what will happen next, I look forward to hearing it.
They’ve found a nice band to do a split with. Yulia play fun indie rock. It reminds me a lot lot lot of Teenage Cool Kids, it has this sweet reverb going on. They also have feedback. “Reversible Destiny” is effortless. So catchy, done and dusted. Love it. “Drinkin’ All Night” is rather more ponderous, and not so much my thing but you can’t win “em all.
