Identical Homes create some stunning electro-post-rock vibes. And yeh, the singer does sound a bit like the guy from Pinback in places (the FFO blurb quotes them). There’s a whispering quality to the vocals, as soft electro beats and a guitar stummming fill in the background. I’m three songs in and really enjoying this. A bit Jesu-lite in places. Hmmm okay only for one song. It’s varied and a pleasure to listen to. ‘Hive Minds’ kinda reminds me of the theme tune to ‘Arietty’; positive and mesmerising with a minute and a half build up before the vocals chime in with ‘It’s the morning light, ends our sleep. In the long day burns, endlessly’. It’s good, trust me.
The album loses its way a little bit halfway through but the penultimate track ‘The Shape Of’ returns to the previous high levels. And I kind of expected the outro to be up there too, which it is. A bit of filler here and there, else this is well worthy of your time.
