It’s taken me a while to get around to listening to this one. Not sure why as I’ve enjoyed all of Annabel’s records to date. This one carries on in the vein of “Youth In Youth” – it’s more of their mid-paced indie rock and although the Built To Spill influence is again noticeable it has a little bit more of a kick on some of the tracks like the defiant “The Fortunate Ones” which is right up there with their best songs. Some of that post rock influence they’ve hinted at on occasion rears its head again on “Days In Between” too. There are a lot of songs I could pick out but the ones that I keep coming back to, in particular, are the aforementioned early highlight “The Fortunate Ones”, the driven title track, and the album closer, “Nothing Good Gets Away”. It’s another very good LP and has grown on me hugely since the first few listens which seems to be the case for me everytime Annabel release new music. Not many bands can keep my interest over 3 LPs and more but Annabel certainly do.
