I thought KWC’s last effort ‘Container Ships’ didn’t come out that long ago. Clearly I’m getting old, or rather KWC turned out a truly refreshing take on an increasingly stale genre. Their early (awesome) blown out beginnings have given way to a moody, measured, stately approach to noise-rock tinged doom, ringing with clarity with all the elements raw and exposed. ‘Grievances’ continues down this road, not relying on crushing, obvious weightiness whilst still exuding ‘heaviness’. Not that it doesn’t get heavy of course, it’s just that there’s a certain mathiness and tension that keeps things tasteful, and that is certainly not something that gets bandied around when I’m about.
