This is some indie rock from North Carolina – the same place as Mineral Girls who I reviewed recently. It’s also the place that brought us Nina Simone, Thelonious Monk and, er, Fred Durst. There is nothing Limp Bizkit about this album though – it sounds more like influences came from some of the same 90s indie rock bands I used to listen to in school. Soundwise, it’s relatively clean and in that sense I might like things to be a bit fuzzier. However, there is some good songwriting happening here and I like the more subdued tracks as well as the almost upbeat (musically at least) “Grow Up Dead”. The title track which is downbeat and melancholy is perhaps the standout track for me on here. Actually, listening again now I might like the closing track, “Seasons To Sleep”, the most – it’s another subdued and downbeat affair that drifts along nicely and in somber fashion. It’s a solid outing and all the more impressive when you consider that this is one guy, Jason Erb, and he wrote, performed, recorded, mixed and mastered the whole thing himself.
