Chicago punk obscurity from ’79 from a band who only released one two-song 7″ when they were a going concern. For whatever reason this only contains one of those two tracks, which is a little bit baffling given the single’s horrendous rarity, but, hey, we’ll assume there’s a jolly good reason for its omission. The other three tracks were hitherto unreleased, so at least there’s that. Each of them is sharp-edged and snotty, pitched somewhere between the frothy, addled glam of the New York Dolls and the punchy, wide boy lurch of Dr Feelgood which means that while the punch of ’77 is in evidence (particularly in the cocky, gorblimey vocal delivery…) their roots might ultimately have lain elsewhere. The standout track for me is ‘Unsatisfied Man’ which boils with thin-lipped frustration, but the remaining three don’t exactly stand around with their hands in their pockets either and effectively round off rather a nice little exhumation.
