A couple of years ago I stumbled across a band called Cash Crop who had spammed the Unwound page on lastfm with their own bandcamp page. I gave it a go and it was more than worth my while as it was a full length put together under the influence of the likes of Unwound and Drive Like Jehu. Cash Crop have since split up but Slow Code are ex-Cash Crop and are doing something not entirely dissimilar although the Unwound influence measures a little lower this time around. Here we have five songs that sound accomplished and powerful, with a gritty anger that makes me think of Fellow Project. The songs here build and twist, and do something pretty different to how they started. “Equivalent Lands” is a huge track but I could say the same about the whole thing. More than highly promising.
