Here’s some relentless, sluggardly stuff that’s not a million miles removed from the Heavydeath album released by the same label. Morbid Evils have a similarly interesting take on their vile doom metal, keeping the genre’s core traits intact while dragging things left-of-centre. The incessant pound recalls Corrupted, early Swans or that recent Legion of Andromeda record, and while initial listens might suggest the band are using monotony as a weapon repeated exposure brings to light subtle shifts in tone and texture in much the same way that the scale of some natural phenomena can only be grasped when viewed from great height or great distance. This lends ‘In Hate With The Burning World’ the kind of intrigue and longevity that brutality alone might not, rendering it enthralling and immersive even as the hammerblow riffs rain down upon you.
