A decent statement of intent from this upstart Bay Area band who appear to have turned the racket dial all the way up to ‘pummel’ before breaking the damn thing off. They’ve got an interesting neither-fish-nor-fowl thing going on, cribbing liberally from noise-rock, sludge and hardcore and distilling elements from each into their own patented formula. Comparisons could reasonably be “Unsane playing with Disembodied’s guitar tone” or “early Swans lightening up a tad and jamming on some Pissed Jeans tunes,” but neither is totally on the money, perhaps because you have occasional moments of swollen, doomy groove or throaty rock n’ roll fire lobbed in as well. While my powers of description are clearly failing me I’ll leave by saying one thing: if any of these vague suggestions caused you to raise an eyebrow then dig right in, because I reckon you sure as heck won’t be disappointed.
