Sonic Medusa are a new band featuring some heavy metal veterans, and they deal in some pretty neat rock music. The four songs here variously dabble in classic rock, classic metal and classic doom, bringing to mind the likes of Lost Breed, Manilla Road and early Soundgarden thanks to the greasy riffs, dynamic structures and full on WAIL of improbably-named frontman “Dirty D.” While three of the tracks rip it up something fierce I’m not totally convinced by ‘Wolf’s Prayer’, which trades pace and fluidity for some fairly awkward theatrics. Still, those other songs absolutely kill it, so if there are more where they came from you can definitely sign me up for a full-length…
