Honestly, the first impression you get from this “” band name, song titles, the gurning, cauliflower-eared skinhead adorning the cover “” is so OTT That you initially wonder whether it’s all some sort of big, elaborate internet hoax but, nay, some quick Googling tells you that Porno Cassettes were an ACTUAL BAND and that this was indeed an ACTUAL THING. Released in a micro edition of 100 back in the early 80s, the band’s sole 7″ features two tracks of guttersnipe, knock-a-copper’s-hat-off punk that, somewhat at odds with the ramshackle nature of everything else, is tightly played and furnished with a big, booming production job. Whether it’s an honest, UK82 Alan Sillitoe-style portrayal of dole-queue-snouts-and-lager existence or a less earnest endeavour played by people who might’ve known better is anyone’s guess, but it’s still a fun, saucy little banger that’s packed with more violent energy than it really knows what to do with. Fun!
