Despite their eyeroll-emoji name, Sealclubber play some pretty solid stuff: heavy, awkward, jagged filth that brings together elements of sludge, grind and Converge-style hardcore. My go-to appraisal for this kind of stuff tends to be ‘Southern Lordcore’, and I could definitely envisage Sealclubber cosily snuggling up next to the likes of All Pigs Must Die, Dead In The Dirt and Martyrdöd. This said, though, the desperate, lung-parched vocals and occasional Playing Enemy-esque tangle hint at a style and spirit of their own, and it could be interesting to see how this might come to the fore in the future.
