Boak - II - 7

Was gonna make a joke about how ‘boak’ sounds like the noise you make when you’re throwing up, but it turns out that it’s actually Scots slang for puking or otherwise feeling a bit on the peaky side. Oh well. This is the trio’s second 7″ but the first I’ve heard, and it sounds pretty darn good to me: wretchedly meaty grind that flirts heavily with powerviolence. Amid the samples (three humorous, one rather less so) and jazzy interludes blast four tracks of seat-of-the-pants heavy stuff that’s pitched somewhere between Thousandswilldie, Benümb or Kill The Client and more hc-inclined stuff like Despise You or Iron Lung. The first three numbers barrel murderously along at a right old pace while closer ‘Pamplona’ employs a savage, mid-paced surge that drags its knuckles with the best of ’em. Furious stuff all round, and reason enough to pick up the next release or leave the house next time they charge down from Aberdeen!
