This is some splendid indie rock from New York. Kind of slow and pondering but still with loudness aplenty. The lovely and wistful opener is all fingerpicked acoustic guitar and hushed vocals before the EP changes somewhat. The next three tracks delve into a 90s-esque indie rock sound that reminds me of Sebadoh particularly on the brilliant “Fall Semester”. Part of what makes this for me is the vocals which are cracked and weathered, almost a whisper at times. The press release says that these songs came from the same session that formed what will be their debut LP. I’m looking forward to it already.
